Tourist Visa To India |
Foreign tourists who want to visit India must ensure they have a valid Indian visa affixed on their passports before they start their journey. However, if you are a national of Nepal or Bhutan, you do not require tourist visa to India; and if Maldives is your home country, you do not require a visa to enter India for a maximum period of 90 days. Unlike in certain countries, there is no provision of ‘Visa on Arrival’ in India, and tourists are not charged any fee for immigration facilities at the Indian airports.
You can obtain tourist visa to India from the Indian Consulate in your country. Various Indian missions abroad help tourists seek Indian visas to visit the land of the Taj Mahal. The validity of tourist visa to India can be six months, one year and ten years. Tourists intending to visit India are normally granted tourist Visa valid for the specified period from the issuance date (and not from the date of first entry into India).
Please note that visa fees are non-refundable and subject to change without prior notice. Tourist visas are non-extendible and non-convertible. The High Commission reserves the right to grant and decide duration of tourist visa to India irrespective of the fees paid at the time of visa application. Granting of Indian Visa does not bestow the right of entering India and is at the discretion of the Immigration Authorities.
You can apply for a tourist visa to India in person or by post at the High Commission of India in the country from where you intend to leave for India. All applicants for tourist visas must fill out an application form, which can be procured from the office of Indian Embassy in their respective countries. Visa forms for Pakistani and Bangladeshi nationals are usually different. All tourists, including children need to apply for Indian visa in separate visa forms.
In order to procure an Indian tourist visa, you need to submit some important documents which include:
Duly completed Visa application form
Your passport, which must have a minimum validity of 6 months on the date of visa application
2 identical passport-size photographs, black-and-white or colored
Documents supporting your financial status
