Kandy Esala Perahera occurs during July/ August. It features torch-bearers, whip-crackers, dancers and drummers and it is spectacular when the procession sets out. Duruthu Perahera is held in Colombo in January and it celebrates the arrival of Buddha in Sri Lanka. Other events, which are not to be missed, are National Day, New Year, Vesak and Kataragama festival.�
