History
The history of Ranthambore is full of historic battles as the first battle was fought in 1301 AD where Rajput King Hamir was defeated by Ala-ud-din Khilji who took control of Ranthambore.
Later Akbar captured it in the year 1569 AD and also took control over the fort. Ranthambore was a popular spot for hunting parties that were organized in this region by the erstwhile rulers of the region and later, the British officials.
In the year 1955 Ranthambore was established as Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary by the efforts of the Indian Government, and in 1973 was declared a Tiger Reserve. It was elevated to the status of a national park in the year 1980. It was in the year 1984 that the neighboring forests were declared the Sawai Man Singh Sanctuary and Keladevi Sanctuary, and in 1991 the tiger reserve was expanded to include Sawai Man Singh and Keladevi sanctuaries as well.
Best Season, Climate, and Clothing
Ranthambore experiences rather an extreme climate with hot summers and where the temperature may range from 35 and 47 degrees centigrade. The winters arrive from November to February and the temperature drops down thus making the entire region chilly. The clothing advised for summers is light woolen and for winters heavy woolen clothing is recommended.
