Bundi Rajasthan

Bundi is situated in the state of Rajasthan in India. Kota is 39 kilometers from Bundi. This historical city is an important place to visit in Rajasthan. The fort overlooking the city and the other historical monuments in and around the city signify the glorious past of this city. The calm and quiet character of the city is a pleasant change from the hustle of other bigger cities of Rajasthan. The many temples, step wells and cenotaphs make the tourist feel that time has stopped here. The capital of an erstwhile princely state, Bundi still captivates tourists and is one of the highlights of tourism in Rajasthan.

Sightseeing in Bundi:
The Taragarh fort was built in 1354 on a steep hill near the city. The fort has massive battlements and ramparts. The massive gates of the fort are also quite impressive. A huge water reservoir made of solid rock is an important structure within the fort. The Bhim bhuri is the largest battlement in the fort. The fort, being perched on a hilltop, provides a magnificent panoramic view of sunset over the city.

The Bundi palace is located on another hill top next top the Taragarh fort. This old palace is famous for the beautiful traditional murals reflective of the local folk traditions of mural making.

The baolis or waterworks of Bundi are quite famous. The steps in these wells create optical illusion and offer an interesting glimpse of the way of life of the local people as they gather around these wells to fetch water which is scarce in these parts. The Rani ki Baoli (queens step well) is a prominent feature of the city. This well is 46 meters deep and is quite a spectacle for tourists. The other waterworks worth a visit in Bundi are the Nagar sagar kund, Nawal Sagar Lake, Dhabai kund, and Bhora ji ka kund.

The narrow streets of Bundi, the local food, the shops selling interesting local souvenirs and handicrafts are some of the experiences to look forward to in Bundi.

There are some good hotels in Bundi offering quality accommodation at affordable prices. The notable among the hotels in Bundi are Haveli Braj Bhushanjee , Ishwari Niwas Palace, and Royal Retreat.

Express buses and taxis can be availed to reach Bundi from the nearby cities of Ajmer, Kota, Sawai Madhopur, Udaipur and Jaipur.
