The administrative headquarters of Alwar District, the city of Alwar is located in Rajasthan at about 160 km south of Delhi, and 150 km north of Jaipur. One of the most desired tourist destinations in India, Alwar was discovered in the second half of the 18th century by Pratap Singh, a Rajput of the Kachwaha lineage. With major Rajput and Muslim influences in history, it has various kinds of architectural instances and thus sees the advent of numerous tourists from various corners of the globe.

On your tour to India you will like to visit the city of Alwar as it offers a special character in terms of culture and ethnicity. The various tourist attractions in Alwar are discussed as follows:

Vinay Vilas:
An 18th century palace exuding perfect blend of the Rajput and Mughal styles of architecture, Vinay Vilas was built in 1840 atop a triangular hilltop. Towering up to 300 meters, it houses beautiful monuments and structures, a museum and placid lakes.

Of these, the museum probably draws the greatest interest. Miniature paintings and a rich collection of ivory and valuable manuscripts are on display here. Armaments of the then kings are surmounted on the walls of the museum. 700 rare manuscripts in Hindi, Sanskrit, Persian and Arabic and other languages as well are found in the museum. The 24 meters Bhagvat Gita, Arabic Koran and the biography of Babur, Baburnama are some of the rarest treasures in this museum. Exclusive collections of armory and swords of the greats like Emperor Akbar, Shah Jahan, and Aurangzeb are also housed here.

Sariska Tiger Reserve:
Set up in 1955, the Sariska Tiger Reserve is one of the few wildlife reserves which are home to ruined temples and monuments as well apart from a huge range of fauna. One of the ancient palaces has been refurbished into a hotel. Sprawled over an area of 800kms, it is home to the four horned antelopes, cheetals, sanbhars, nilgais and tigers.

Bala Quila:
Your tour to Alwar - one of the choicest tourist destinations in India, will take you to the Bala Quila. Serving as an unfailing protector from outsiders, this magnificent fort is 304 meters high and houses many palaces and temples. Massive gates add to the grand stature of the structure.

Sagar:
Constructed in 1815 A.D by Maharaja Vinay Singh the artificial lake behind the City Palace has a few temples along its banks. A wonderful chhatri with strange Bengali roof and vaults is situated within this lake.
