  • The erstwhile rulers of the princely states, Nizam of Hyderabad, ruler of Gujrat and Rajputana and the Viceroy of British India traveled in well furnished personal coaches. Since these elaborately done coaches could not be incorporated with normal passenger trains after independence, individual luxury trains were started for the affluent who would like to spend their vacations touring parts of India in royal coaches such as the Palace on Wheels. Palace on Wheels Train Tour is a journey with all the royalty and luxury one can ask for.

Palace on Wheels is a broad gauged train that started running since the year 1996. It has 14 Saloons with attached baths. The saloons are interconnected to each other. The luxury train also has a library, bar, dining cars and a lounge.

Coaches/Saloons: Each Saloon is named after the princely states of Rajasthan such as Udaipur, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Kota, Bundi, Dholpur etc. and each of them have a décor matching the aesthetics of Rajasthan. The furniture, handicrafts, paintings are extensively used to give a unique look. Though each coach looks different there is an overall uniformity in the décor.

The luxury of traveling in Palace on Wheels is enjoying a personal valet and attendant catering to your needs. Each saloon has four coupes and a personal attendant and valet are appointed for each saloon. There is a mini pantry attached to every saloon that provides tea and snacks.

The Palace on Wheels that traverses through the heart of the desert taking you to all the princely states of Rajasthan, departs from Delhi every Wednesday from the month of September to April for a weekly tour. It starts from Delhi takes you to Jaipur in the second day, travels to Jaisalmer on the 3 rd day, reaches Jodhpur on the 4 th consecutive day, makes it to Sawai Madhopur and Chittorgarh on the 5 th day, travels to Udaipur on the 6 th day , to Agra on the 7 th day and finally takes you back to Delhi on the 8 th day.
